Form 16 Reader
Upload your Form 16 PDF and we'll extract gross salary, exempt allowances, deductions, TDS deducted and total tax payable — instantly. Useful for ITR filing prep, regime comparison, or sanity-checking your employer's tax math.
🔒 Your Form 16 never leaves the browser. All parsing happens locally on your device.
What this tool extracts
- Employee name, employer name, PAN, TAN
- Assessment year / Financial year
- Gross salary + Section 17(1)/(2)/(3) breakdown
- Allowances exempt under Section 10 (HRA, LTA, etc)
- Standard deduction (Section 16) and professional tax
- Chapter VI-A deductions: 80C, 80CCD(1B), 80D, etc
- Taxable income, total tax, surcharge, cess
- Total TDS deducted (matches what the employer paid to govt on your behalf)
When auto-extraction won't work
- Scanned (image-only) Form 16 — no text layer to extract. We'll show what we found and you can manually copy from the PDF.
- Password-protected PDF — Form 16s downloaded from TRACES are often locked with your PAN as the password. Unlock first using a desktop PDF viewer, then upload.
- Highly customised employer formats — most software (Razorpay, Zoho, Pocket HRMS) follows the standard CBDT layout, but some custom payroll systems use different field names. We may miss those.
After you have the values
Use the extracted gross salary in the Income Tax Calculator to compare old vs new regime for your situation. Check the deductions against what you actually want to claim under the old regime — sometimes employers under-claim 80C/80D and you can recover tax through ITR filing.
Form 16 Part A vs Part B
- Part A — generated from TRACES. Has employer/employee names, PAN, TAN, period, total tax deducted. This is the “tax certificate”.
- Part B — prepared by your employer. Has the salary breakup, exemptions, deductions, taxable income calculation. This is the “salary annexure”.
For full extraction, upload the combined Part A + Part B PDF (most employers issue them together).
