Quick frame: UIDAI distinguishes between demographic updates (name, address, DOB, gender, mobile, email) and biometric updates (fingerprints, iris, photo). Demographic can mostly be done online; biometric requires a visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK).

You can update:

• Email and mobile (after OTP verification on existing mobile)
• Name (limited to spelling corrections; major changes require visit)

In-person at ASK / Aadhaar Seva Kendra

Required for:

• Name change (after marriage, legal name change)
• DOB change
• Gender change
• Photo, fingerprints, iris (biometric updates)
• Address (without document — via Head of Family verification)

Fee: ₹50 per update; biometric refresh free if first time after 5/15 year mandatory cycles. Timeline: 30-90 days for biometric updates (involves CIDR).

Mandatory biometric update

• Children at age 5 (first re-enrolment of biometrics)
• Children at age 15 (second mandatory re-enrolment)
• Adults: not mandated, but recommended every 10 years if your prints have worn (manual labour)

UIDAI maintains a list of 30+ acceptable documents. Common ones:

• Address proof: Passport, voter ID, electricity bill (≤ 3 months), gas bill, bank statement, ration card

Online update — step by step

4. Upload self-attested PoA scan
5. Pay ₹50
6. Get URN (Update Request Number) → track via "Check Aadhaar Update Status"
7. SMS confirmation when approved; download e-Aadhaar
