Who is eligible
- Spouse (married): Lifetime 50% of member pension, until remarriage or death.
- Children: Equal share for dependent unmarried up to age 25.
- Orphan children (both parents dead): 75% pension per child, max 2 children.
- Disabled child: Pension continues even past 25 if permanently disabled.
Documents needed
- Member's death certificate
- Marriage certificate (for spouse)
- Birth certificates of children
- Spouse's ID (Aadhaar, PAN)
- Member's EPF account / UAN
- Bank account details (with cancelled cheque)
Submit to EPFO regional office (where member was last registered).
Form 10D — filing details
Form 10D is the family pension claim form. Available on EPFO website. Submit:
- Online via member portal (UAN), if member's account was active
- Offline at regional EPFO office
Spouse / nominee fills the form. EPFO verifies, computes pension, releases.
Timeline
- Submission to EPFO: 1 day (if online)
- Verification: 7-30 days
- First pension credit: 30-60 days post submission
If not credited in 90 days, escalate via EPFO grievance portal.

Q. Spouse remarries — pension stops? A. Yes. Pension stops on remarriage. Children's pension continues until age 25.
Q. Multiple wives (in legal cases)? A. Only the legally first / current wife (per Hindu Marriage Act). Court-validated marriage required.
Q. Live-in partner? A. Not eligible. EPS family pension requires legal marriage proof.
Q. After spouse dies, what happens to children's share? A. Children continue with equal share. After all eligible children turn 25, pension stops.
Q. Rate of family pension? A. Fixed nominal amount. Doesn't increase with inflation. Plan accordingly.
